About me/us:

I am a composer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and community musician. I frequently compose for theatre, dance, spoken word, film and commercial purposes. Since 2015, I have worked as a community musician and choirleader, running workshops for children, young people, adults, people with additional support needs, senior citizens, and stroke, dementia and psychiatric inpatients, in a range of environments from art galleries and museums, community centres and day centres, primary schools and SEN schools, hospitals and care homes, science labs and outdoor festivals. Alongside my freelance work, I was also a community assistant for an integration network for asylum seekers and refugees between 2013-15, and an additional support needs youth worker from 2017-19. I am interested in exploring cross-modal / multi-sensory environments, free improvisation, sound experiments and creating an open space for participants to explore instruments and music. I have led workshops on folk music, vocal & instrumental improvisation, soundtracking visuals & movement, using effects pedals (incl. loopers), song-writing, repurposing household objects as instruments, and group singing. I am inspired by composers, community musicians and improvisers such as Pauline Oliveros and her practice of "deep listening", Meredith Monk, Maggie Nicols, Phil Minton, John Stevens and Trevor Wishart. Underpinning all my work is a strong interest in music for health & wellbeing, and the deep belief that everyone is musical, and deserves to access music. Outside of my community music work, I have been a touring musician, booking my own solo tours across Europe, which I tried to keep as environmentally-friendly as possible, by mostly travelling by train, ferry and bus. I have performed at many notable events, including Copenhagen Jazz Festival (Denmark), SONICA, Edinburgh Art Festival, Supernormal, Fort Process, Edinburgh International Science Festival, Noise Garden (Hungary), Listen To The Voice of Fire, Festival of Endless Gratitude (Denmark), Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art, and Swansea International Festival.
