About me/us:

I have a degree in Ecology (1980) and a postgraduate diploma in Youth and Community work (1988). In 1997 I completed an apprenticeship in community music at MoreMusic (Morecambe). Since then I have developed a freelance career as a fiddle player (and border bagpipe player) working mainly in Cumbria and North Lancashire. I have performed around 1000 gigs with Striding Edge ceilidh band; founded and still project manage the Lakeland Fiddlers ( (mainly) adult community band); and developed methods for teaching young people fiddle in school and community settings. I currently manage FolkFirst Barrow, a community band for young people aged 10 upwards, with 2 other colleagues; Bev Whelan (flute) and Mary Dunsford (harp). I am looking to expand and develop this work.
