The Spark Arts for Children is working with Leicestershire Music Hub on an exciting residency project. It aims to deliver a world class performance opportunity and establish a world music ensemble for young people in Braunstone, creating routes for children to experience music making, composition and performance.

The project will be delivered in two phases. Phase one will be a music residency in three city schools with professional jazz musician Arun Ghosh, this will culminate in a live performance at The Spark Festival. Phase two will establish a new and sustainable world music ensemble, with and for the Braunstone Community.

The Brief:

•  We are specifically looking for a musician who is excited about the idea to develop a community. ensemble, with a world music influence.
• They must commit to supporting the lead musician during the residency in schools.
• They will work with a group of young music champions to consult, promote and build the foundation for a sustainable community music group.
• With support from partners, they will lead and deliver music focused sessions in the community, including basic administration connected to session delivery, to inspire children in a safe environment.

Criteria for selection:

• Highly skilled musician with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Committed to working with staff working in schools/community venues.
• Desire to explore how to successfully start and develop a community ensemble.
• Experience of developing and delivering creative projects with primary aged children/families.
• Experience of working with children, enabling them to gain confidence and knowledge to influence music practice in their school and community.
