The National Open Youth Orchestra (NOYO) is a world first, and ambitious orchestra launched in September 2018 to give some of the UK’s most talented young disabled musicians a progression route. It promotes musical excellence, empowering disabled and non-disabled musicians aged 11-25 to rehearse and perform together as members of a pioneering ensemble.
Midlands Arts Centre, partnered with Town Hall Symphony Hall and Services For Education, have recently announced a major partnership with NOYO. Together, they will act as the Birmingham NOYO Centre, with rehearsals commencing in September 2021. We are currently recruiting for a Music Leader and an Assistant Music Leader to lead and conduct the new NOYO Birmingham ensemble.
We are a seeking an Assistant Music Leader to assist and support the Music Leader, leading when required, in 10 small-group music sessions once a month in Birmingham on a Saturday commencing September 2020.
Other key responsibilities include:
- Attend and support students at the NOYO 3-day Residency in April 2022
- To support 1 NOYO concert in 2022
- Email liaison with Musical Director, Pastoral Support Officer and one-to-one instrument teachers
- Support practice diaries for NOYO members & trainees
- Virtual reflection discussions with NOYO Music Leader
Our ideal candidate will:
- be educated to degree level or equivalent
- have experience of leading and developing high quality, inspirational and inclusive music delivery across a range of environments working with disabled children and young people, and those with additional needs
- be able to read standard notation
- be a competent and confident musician
The rate of pay is £175 full day, £100 half day, £50 meeting rate.
