The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on community music
24 September 2020
This ICCM Conversations event is linked with a forthcoming special issue of the International Journal of Community Music, on the pandemic and its effects

This event will explore the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on community music, focusing on the response of musicians to national lockdowns and social distancing measures to reduce risks of infection. The session will be introduced and chaired by Dr. Stephen Clift. Two speakers will share their perspectives on the pandemic and its effects: Sonia Price from the Sidney De Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health will present findings from a national survey of singing for health group leaders during the lockdown, and Vivien Ellis will describe her use of song writing with members of Dragon Cafe in London. Break out sessions will be organised for participants to meet in small groups and discuss the presentations and share their own experiences. The session is linked with a forthcoming special issue of the International Journal of Community Music, on the pandemic and its effects, and Stephen Clift will conclude with further details of this issue and a call for submissions.
