Skills Lab Academy is the community music training programme of Spitalfields Music. It's designed for musicians, aged 18+, from all backgrounds who wish to develop their skills in creative music-making and leadership in a range of community settings, and meet fellow like-minded artists.

In our third Skills Lab Academy session, professional singer-songwriter and music leader Abimaro Gunnell will take the reins, guiding participants through a range of her individual approaches and techniques to music-leading. This will build on games, warm-ups and other techniques discussed in previous Skills Lab sessions.

We will also be joined by Manchester-based composer Michael Betteridge who will focus on how music leaders can use place as a central focus for creative music-making. Through practical exercises and discussion, participants will have a chance to try out new approaches and reflect on the role of the artist in creating place-based work.
