About the event
Where Are We Now? Race, Music, and the Future of Education

The Music Education Council invites you to our latest seminar, bringing together leading voices from music education and the music industry to reflect on the urgent question: Where are we now on race and representation?

Against a backdrop of national conversations on race, this seminar will explore:
- How UK Music’s recognition of Black music’s contribution reshapes industry and education.
- The role of grassroots organisations in driving meaningful change.
- The future of DEI/EDI as a sector-wide priority.
- The impact of upcoming curriculum reviews (GCSE/A Level) and the need to rethink assessment.
- Music hub funding, centres of excellence, and navigating the funding cap.
- Wellbeing and psychological safety as essential foundations for progress.

Through panel discussions, thought pieces, and shared perspectives, we will consider what more needs to be done to create an equitable, inclusive, and forward-looking music sector.
