Delivering music activities with children and young people online: what is working?
17 June 2020
Surrey Music Hub and Kinetika Bloco will be sharing musical, creative and collaborative activities in this online Sound Connections workshop

During the COVID-19 pandemic we have seen a dramatic increase in organisations repurposing their music activities for children and young people online. Whether this is through delivering online music tuition, running virtual choirs and ensembles, providing creative challenges and activities to keep young people engaged, it has challenged us as music educators to rethink the way we work.

This session will involve two organisations – Surrey Music Hub and Kinetika Bloco – sharing how they have kept children and young people engaged through music, particularly those who are vulnerable. They will share the musical, creative and collaborative activities that have been effective, the processes they went through to set these up, safeguarding, and how they have ensured their online practice is inclusive.

Following this, there will be an open sharing session in breakout rooms with participants. Bring along a musical activity that you have found to be effective – whether with groups or individual young people – be prepared to share this with others, and take away a bank of new ideas!
