Community Music Tutoring - Online Introductory Training

This course from Community Music Wales is designed to give you a good grounding in some of the essential skills and knowledge you need to run music workshops in a range of community settings

Who is it for?

  • Musicians (self -taught or formally trained) who are new to leading groups and would like to learn some skills and techniques to run effective, inclusive workshops.
  • Community music tutors who would like to refresh their skills or gain some new ideas for their community workshops.
  • Those who already work in the community and would like to start to use music in their existing work.


When will it happen?

October 2020. The course will take place part time, over 3 weeks. Each session will last between 1.5 and 2 hours, using Zoom video software.


What will you learn?
This is an introductory course which will give you a good grounding in some of the essential skills and knowledge you need to run music workshops in a range of community settings. We hope that it will provide the first steps in your ongoing development as a community music tutor.

Sessions will cover topics such as: What is Community music?: Effective teaching skills: How to avoid or deal with difficult situations in workshops: Creating new material: Songwriting with community groups. Practicalities of working as a community musician.

There will be a mixture of practical workshops, discussion, individual study and small group exercises.
