Training the Community Musician
18 February 2019 - 19 February 2019
Sound Sense, in partnership with the University of Aberdeen and Edinburgh Youth Music Forum invites you to take part in the first of a series of symposia, bringing together practitioners who teach Community Music in formal, informal and non-formal settings.

Training the Community Musician is the first of a series of symposia. This is the first CPD event for community musicians to be announced since the launch of Sound Sense new corporate plan Community Music Everywhere, and will include discussions, debate, sharing practice and opportunities to meet other practitioners who work in your field.

The symposium is aimed at trainers, educators and practitioners who train those who deliver community music in formal, informal and non-formal sectors and any community music practitioner from across the UK and further afield who has an interest in engaging with the discussion and becoming part of a growing network of practitioners who train others in community music settings.

The two-day event aims to create a network focused on sharing 'the practice of teaching the practice' of Community Music. We will be exploring what we are teaching, how  we're teaching it, where we are teaching it, and finally, what issues we face teaching this emerging field. There will be opportunities for participants to work separately and creatively together in both theoretical and practical activities.

Day 1 of the symposia will offer a facilitated Open Space to inform the agenda for the sessions on Day 2.

Leading up to the event, participants who have booked on to the event will have the opportunity to feed into the content of the event, allowing the symposia to be tailored to those taking part. We will be doing this by adding confirmed delegates to a closed Facebook group and via email.

We are aware of the distance some people have to travel to attend the event and have therefore kept the cost as low as possible at £47.75. This includes the symposium, all tea/coffees and lunches over the two days.

We are actively seeking partners for future events in this series, which will take part in other UK nations and possibly further afield.
