The Cobweb Orchestra has been an active part of the musical landscape of the North of England since 1995. Nine local orchestras, based across the whole region from Cumbria to Morpeth and York, are run during the week in term time by a group leader and secretary.

We seek a new musical director who will have responsibilities that include:

• Creating a programme of musical events across the North of England which are open to all members and guests, in suitable venues playing appropriate repertoire. The MD has overall responsibility for ensuring that all players have a part on the day. This requires timely and constructive liaison with the library team (Cobweb Orchestra has an extensive music library) and the transposition group
• Providing musical leadership (conducting) for some sessions, and engaging guest conductors for the remainder

Essential criteria:

• Formal training in classical music
• Experience and competence in directing and conducting an orchestra
• Extensive knowledge of orchestral repertoire
• Understanding of the capabilities and limitations of all orchestral instruments
