Who is it for?

Community musicians with some experience of workshop leading in community settings, who would like to increase their knowledge and skills to work in youth engagement settings.

Musicians with experience as Youth Workers, Creative Practitioners in Education, Teachers or Professionals working in Community settings who would like to bring their musical experience into youth engagement.

Course Overview

 This six session online course will prepare you for working creatively with young people. It will provide a thorough grounding in creative youth engagement through exploring models of education and group development and giving practical experience of creating and delivering engagement activities.

By the end of the course you will have the necessary skills and experience to successfully deliver Creative Youth Engagement Workshops.

The course will be delivered on Zoom and will give you experience in digital engagement and adapting face to face activities to digital delivery.

The course will cover:
• Practical activities for youth engagement
• Creating new, and adapting existing, activities for digital first delivery
• How to plan a Workshop
• Models of education, group leadership and development
• Increasing confidence in working with young people
• Understanding the boundaries of the role of a community musician; what is and isn’t your responsibility, when to ask for help
• Safeguarding yourself and young people
• Inclusivity
• Giving and receiving feedback, including reflecting on own practice

As well as tutor-led practical exercises and discussions, there will be a strong element of shared and collaborative learning, with small and large group tasks. You will be encouraged to learn in their own time and share their learning with the group.
