Training the Community Musician
17 February 2020 - 18 February 2020
Sound Sense invites you to take part in the second Training the Community Musician Symposium, bringing together practitioners who teach Community Music in formal, informal and non-formal sectors. Following on from feedback from Training the Community Musician symposium 2019, this second symposium will delve into and explore three of the themes that came out of the open space discussions of the previous symposium. The symposium will combine using Open Space facilitation with panel discussions and provocations

This is the second in a series of annual symposiums, bringing together practitioners who teach Community Music in formal, informal and non formal settings.

Following on from feedback from the TTCM 2019 symposium, this second event will delve into and explore three themes that came out of last year's Open Space sessions:

Themes:

1 What are the essential and desirable skills required by a Community Musician (Community Music Standards)

2. Within training, what is the balance between training the person and training the musician?

3. What is the Community Musicians Duty of Care; to self and others?

The 2019 symposium used  Open Space facilitation to allow the emergence of themes in this area. TTCM 2020 will continue to remain open, using Open Space facilitation, with a mixture of more traditional symposiums methods.

A two day event, this years symposium is hosted by Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance in London,  The project is delivered by Sound Sense, in partnership with Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance, University of Aberdeen and Edinburgh Youth Music Forum.

The series of symposia are designed to create a lasting legacy of opportunities to inform community music practice.
